Just a note from the back of the room

“Most (not all) arguments against Christianity and the Bible are based in a contrary view of them that’s more Fundamentalist than the most Fundy Christian would hold his/her views by”

Think about it.

Wednesday Word: “Fear vs Love”

From 1 John 4. God is Love, He dwells in us by Faith. We love because God is Love… dwelling in Us.

Good morning all and Welcome back to the Wednesday Word. Today’s word is two words actually. Love and Fear. So much of our lives, both In Christ and just in a Natural World, are “ruled”, if I may use that word, by these words.

The Psalmist and the writer of Proverbs both tell us that “Fear of God is the beginning of…” both Knowledge and Wisdom. In the OT sense, to Fear God is to Obey Him… or suffer the consequences, as the Israelites did time and time again when God “gave them over to destruction” or captivity to their enemies until such a time that they “put away their Idols and false gods…” and once again returned to their own “God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob”.

But we… In Christ… have no such Fear. The “perfect love” which Jesus displayed for all to see on the Cross “casts out ALL fear”. Because He took on Himself the “sin of the world”, because “The Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the World”, Jesus took ALL the punishment and wrath and the Consequences… and the FEAR… from having “sinned against a Holy and Jealous God” on Himself that He might be “the just and justifier of those who trust in Him”.

In Christ Jesus, there is no more Fear. We need not FEAR. Only Love remains… “the Love of God shed abroad in our hearts”… dispensed, if I may use that word, TO and IN us. And as “God’s love is Perfected in Us..” we in turn can not only “love Him because He first loved us”, we can also “pour out” that Love supplied to us… to satisfy and satiate the need of those around us who hear much of “the Fear of God” and His Holiness… utter Separateness and Unlikeness to us that He is… but little of His nearness, His closeness and His radical Love and amazing and enduring Gift of Love TO and FOR us… in the Person and Work of Jesus.

Perfect Love casts out Fear. Let Him Love you today. Let Him fill your hearts, minds, souls and strength… with His Love… with Himself, “for God is Love”.

Six-Word-Saturday: “Better to be Thought a Fool”

Good morning all. I’m Barabbas and this is Six-Word-Saturday, a Weekly Offering here in response to Debbie’s. It’s a writing prompt started and currently being run by Debbie over on Travel with Intent. Why not check her blog out and participate yourself?

Only a Fool Proclaims Himself “Wise”

Here is her Current I’m still not sure, seeing some of the other entries, whether we need to stay on the photo given. But here is my humble attempt for this week. As you can see, I’ve “sprinkled in” more than one set of Six-Words. Enjoy 🙂

The proverbs for today the 17th.

V26 speaks to what some people today want to do. Drive down the successful, “eat the rich” to make themselves feel “equal” without having to put in the time, effort and Risk to work for their own success. This is based in jealousy and greed not “equity” as they say…though they may not know or admit it. Stop trying to Steal or use the power of the Government to Steal what others have that you want. It’s still Theft.

“Equity” based Taxation is Legalized Theft

V27 speaks to those with a calm, secure and confident knowledge and competence. Those who are always talking, never able to shut up, always wrangling on and on about themselves or their “expertise” rarely have any. These are what the bible calls “Fools”. A little self awareness would go a long way.

Calm Assurance needs no “Flowery” Words

V28 happens to remind me of my mom. Every 17th of the month when I come to this one, I hear my mom saying… “better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt” 🙂

Don’t be a Fool. Shut-up Sometimes.

Enjoy the Day – Barabbas

Thursday Thoughts: Our Environments. Our Thorns

Welcome to Thursday Thoughts, a Weekly Offering here at Christ In You, where I post a prompt for your Thinking and Consideration, perhaps even for your prayer time as we head into the weekend from a busy work week. Enjoy. – Barabbas

My Daily Dose of Rebuke and Encouragement

Today’s proverbs say so much about the mouth, words and foolishness. And angry, wrathful words… as do alot of proverbs. Often in my job as a customer service rep on the phone, the temptation is there to be impatient and unsympathetic as I listen and try to help people. The struggle to control both my attitude and my tongue is real. I wish I could say I’m 100% successful all the time, but sadly… I’m human and fallible. I’m so grateful that God is not like me. And Hopeful that God is continually changing and shaping me to be like Him. This was my devo this am I prepare for work to start at 830a

It didn’t take long for God to Answer

So, what is your “thorn”? What is the Environment that God uses to drive you to His Supply?

Friday Free For All: “Why so downcast, oh my soul?…”

“…Put your Hope in God”

Good morning all. Good Friday Morning !!!

From my reading of psalm 41-45 for the 9th of every month comes this gem. It’s appropriate that it comes so early in the month, but not at the very beginning.

We start out our lives, our days, our months with exuberance and “chipper” Hope and Promise that either “Great Things are going to happen for me!” And “Finally, my ship will come to port!”. Or “…at least it will be Better than yesterday”, or last week, or last month… or last year.

But by the first week in, we start to feel the Reality, the Gravity of it all. We feel the Pull of our own Humanity and weakness and failure… and perhaps more than a little of the failings of Others affecting us.

We become… Downcast and start Dispairing of any Hope or Expectation that it will EVER change or be different. We start wondering, questioning… Believing that it never will.

It will take more than a quick exhortation to “Buck Up!!” to get you thru the “Slough of Despond and Dispair”. It will take a Reminder, well placed, not yet necessary at the beginning… but available and Ready to be seen by say… Psalm 42 and 43, on the 9th of every month.

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted in me? Hope thou in God: For I shall yet praise him For the help of his countenance. O my God, my soul is cast down within me: Therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar. Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: All thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, And in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.”-Psalm 42:5‭-‬8 KJV

And …

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted within me? Hope in God: For I shall yet praise him, Who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”-Psalm 43:5 KJV

If you are there today… be encouraged.

God is the Hope and Health of your very Being. In Him we Live and Move and have our Being. He hasn’t left. You haven’t been abandoned. He is STILL with you and IN you both to “will and do Of His Good Pleasure”. That means He’s “working out” and “working in” His plan and His Very LIFE in you. He hasn’t given up.

“Why so downcast, oh my soul?”. PUT YOUR HOPE IN God. “The Author” or Beginner… “and Finisher” or Completer “Of our Faith”. What He started… He will complete “until the day of the Lord”.

Why so Downcast…Put your Hope and Earnest Expectaion… in God and Christ Jesus our Saviour. Amen!!!

Wednesday Word: “Heaven”

Heaven is where God Is

Good morning all and Welcome back to the Wednesday Word. Today’s word is … Heaven. This one word evokes such desire, such anticipation, such Hope. But what is it? Heaven… Heaven has so many connotations and images for so many and different people.

Most of what we Think about Heaven and what awaits beyond this life is really nothing more than speculation and even a bit of Wishful Thinking… as we “pretend” to actually Know what we can only Believe and have Faith for. The machinations and scripture twisting of “amateur bible scholars” world wide (Did I hear an “Ouch!” Out there?) most likely pale and fail in the Reality that “no eye hath seen, mind has conceived” that waits for us individually… and One Day Corporately… when we “all get to…” Heaven.

For me… I seem to “Know” less and less every day, every year. And I seek to Believe and have Faith for More and More as my Saviour not only prepares His Bride, but also the Banquet Hall for the real “Wedding for the Ages”. I content myself in ever increasing degrees as that Day draws near… to simply know that whatever, wherever… Whenever… Heaven is…

Heaven is where God is. What a Glorious thought and expectation that is. It sustains. It nourishes. It satisfies. Heaven is where God is and I never want to BE anywhere else.

The “Chances” are High

Be Ready to Hear “A Word from our Sponsor”

This is Velin. He is a brother from Bulgaria living in London who has a Pipe Smoking Channel I subscribe to. Yes, I smoke a Tobacco Pipe from time to time just like your grandfather or father may have. There is a whole community of us around the country and around the world who like to post and watch YouTube Videos about our hobby.

“If your bible is in tatters, your life won’t be” – Spurgeon

Today, I was browsing around and found he had done a quick one about “what are the chances” that you would open up your bible and “hear” God “Speaking” to you. His premise was that there are particular verses that seem more important than others to him, and I agree.

Read, expecting “the Still, small voice” of God.

I threw Velin a “like” and commented. I couldn’t figure out how to copy my comment after I had submitted it to I took a screen shot for you for your perusal. Maybe you’d like to “like” and “comment” here as well.

Enjoy your day. – Barabbas

Wednesday Word: “Write in Your Bibles!”

Good morning all and Welcome back to the Wednesday Word. Today is my wife’s birthday and we’ve both taken the next three days off PTO. So along with Saturday, Sunday and then Monday’s Labor Day Holiday, we have six days in a row to enjoy and celebrate my wife. Yay!!

I also happen to be waiting for a special delivery package on UPS. I’ve ordered a new Bible. Wide Margin, KJV, and I decided to go back to a Scofield Reference. I had a scofield as my first “real” bible after coming to Faith at 15, but gave it away to a new believer in the 90s and have been kicking myself ever since.

You see, there was something special about that bible that saw my introduction to Christianity and the biblical text, that chronicled my growth in both Faith and Knowledge of God and His Word… and it wasn’t primarily Scofield’s Notes or system of references. It was MY notes and references that I’d made thru the years of reading and studying the Word to “see Jesus on every page”.

In every bible I’ve owned over the years I’ve made my marks, notes, jottings, underlines and highlights… showing me where I’d been and where I was going. What I was learning and how I was “getting on” in the christian life and discipleship with Jesus.

You may have seen with the pictures I’ve posted how my current bible is “holding up” to the “abuse”. Lol. I’ve had this bible, Cambridge Wide Margin, KJV (no references and no “study bible” notes at all), since Jan 1998. It’s been my guide, my companion and my comfort thru many years and changes. If I may paraphrase a scripture for another use and “reverse” it a bit… “the outer man” is still holding up very well indeed, being genuine leather and still in great shape. However the “inner man” of my Cambridge is “perishing day by day”.

Pages are worn and some are even on the verge of coming out. There are notes and markings on nearly every page. Even the OT, where many Christians fear to tread, hasn’t escaped my pen and highlighter. Some might describe my bible as “very well trodden” indeed. 🙂

Thus… a new Bible is on its way for the next 25yrs and beyond. I will always have the Cambridge and will still reference it and even possibly make MORE notes and markings in it as well. You don’t just “ditch” an old friend and partner who’s walked thru both Heaven and “hell”, figuratively speaking. You cherish and continue to value their friendship, advice and companionship for many more years and changes to come.

But my new Bible will be fresh, clean and ready for the next decades of notes and markings. Pushing me forward as I read the Word of God, God’s Speaking to me, for years to come. Here’s to friends both Old and New. Watch the video and “write in your bibles” today.
